Description: I don't do dangerous.

Smart, über-careful, ordinary Samantha-that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number-one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me...something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing-and I don't know if I can get it back.

Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me. But something terrifying is closing in, and the one chance Bishop and I have to stop it means losing everything I ever wanted and embracing the darkness inside me....

NIGHTWATCHERS When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...

My Review:

Michelle Rowen has done it again. She's created a book with an original, action-filled story that manages to be hilarious and frightening at the same time, along with the added bonus of some seriously hot guys. I'm a big Michelle Rowen fan. Her Demon Princess series is actually the series that really got me into reading. And so, when I heard about Nightwatchers, I jumped up and down and got Dark Kiss on NetGallery (thank you!). I'm happy, and not suprised, to say that I wasn't disappointed.

The Nightwatchers are basically the Avengers, but a ragtag group of demons and angels instead of superheros and they're fighting against grays, a new soul-hungry anomoly, rather than monsters from outerspace. (Sorry, just went and saw The Avengers yesterday). But talk about original and fun! The main character, Samantha aka Sam, gets pulled into the fight when she herself is turned into a gray with a insatible hunger for souls. She also has abilities beyond your average gray that make her an essential member of the Nightwatchers team.

The main members of the Nightwatchers team are the leader Bishop and the second in command Kraven. Bishop is an angel with some crayons missing from the box after the fall to Earth rattled his brain, but for some reason Sam's touch can clear his mind.

Hey, I just met you,
And I'm crazy,
But I need to touch you,
So join me, maybe?

Yup. I have no shame. But that basically describes my first impressions of Bishop. Kraven is a demon with an endless supply of snark for every time of the day. He's definitely my favorite character, but I'll get into that more later. Then, of course, there's the unexpected member Sam.

With her new found powers, I was hoping Sam would become a confident, unstopable force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, this was not the case. She was alright, but she couldn't seem to fight for herself and sometimes made choices that didn't make much sense. On top of that, she fell madly in love with Bishop within a matter of days. Sure, Bishop was hot and adorablely protective, but come on.

I'd known him for less than a week. But that didn't change a damn thing. He'd quickly worked his way into my heart. He was my heart. Maybe he was my soul, too.

The instalove probably would've bothered me less if there hadn't been the makings of a perfect romance not two feet away. Kraven and Sam bicker and banter constantly, claiming passionate hate for one another. Well, you know what they say about passion changing sides. And besides all of the ingredients for a great romance being present, Kraven himself was... well..

My addiction, my weakness, is and always has been... the bad boy. Especially the snarky ones. Enter Kraven, a handsome demon with a sense of humor. I really didn't stand a chance. Just 20% through the book and I'd nicknamed him Krae-Krae and everyone near me willing to listen had heard at least one of his jokes. From the first moment he opened is mouth and said one of his, usually, inappropriate and always hilarious comments, I saw him as Jake Abel. Yum.

Here are just a few of Kraven's stellar contributions to conversation.
"Work that mojo, gray girl. Consider me a true believer now. Hallelujah."
"I can practically hear the violins playing," Kraven drawled. "So romantic, I could die. Should Zach and I leave the room so you two can go at it, or what?"
Am I the only one who is strongly reminded of Damon from The Vampire Diaries with these snarky comments? I love it. And like Damon, Kraven has one for every occassion, even when they're facing death.

With an awesome storyline that had me laughing one minute and my heart racing the next, constant action, hot guys, and the great writing I've come to expect from Michelle Rowen, Dark Kiss was a great read. It would definitely have gotten a full 5 hearts from me if it hadn't been for my ify relationship with Sam and the questionable instalove between her and Bishop. Nonetheless, I still 100% reccomend reading it.

Summed Up:

Another great book by Michelle Rowen! It had a unique and fun new storyline, great writing and characters, and was full of action and even things that made me laugh. I especially loved Kraven and his snark! The main character annoyed me sometimes though and I wasn't a fan of the instalove.

Love Kraven too?

If you, like me, have a weakness for snarky bad boys and were instantly charmed by Kraven and want to show your love, then you're in luck. I've been keeping "Team/Book Boyfriend" badges on my Meet Linny page, and I just had to make one for Krae-Krae. Since I want to spread the love, I'm sharing my creation. Enjoy.

I love, love this book Linny and I LOVE Kraven too! What made me fall in love with him, is the nickname he has for Sam "Sweetness", that just sent swoon chills all over me! ;) I could just see his cocky sexy smile saying sweetness! ;)

Love Kraven! I wish that he would of been the love interest. Bishop is fairly boring next to Kraven.

Thanks for sharing... Book Enslaved

@Debbie
I'm glad to hear you do Debbie!! I was very very close to love, just my little problem with Sam stopped me from a perfect rating.

YAY, soo glad you're a Kraven lover too! I honestly don't know what I'll do one someone comments saying they don't like him haha. Yes, I was drooling on my Kindle whenever he said "Sweetness". *sigh*

@Jussy Who
Yes, Bishop was hot and all, but the relationship was wayy to easy that it was rather dull. Glad to hear that you feel the same! :D I 100% feel like there's hope for us Team Kravens though! Remember near the end when he was like "Who says I was trying to save him?" AKA he wanted to save Sam. Huh, huh? *eyebrow waggle*

Oh, Linny, your review makes me grin like crazy! It's clear how much you love Kraven, and I have to admit, he's swooony! <3 Although I'm not really a fan of love triangle, I'm kind of waiting for it in the second book. Finger crossed that it would be a likable love triangle! x)

I'm more of team Bishop, but Kraven is a hot guy that can't be resisted easily either! His snarky comments spice the whole story. <3 Awesome review, Linny! :)

I loved Kraven, too! But, meh. I don't think I enjoyed DARK KISS as much as you did. To me, Bishop and Sam were really annoying. Oh well.

Great review, anyhow. Kraven looks hot. ;)

@Meg
Yay Kraven love! And yeah, definitely thought Sam could be annoying and the instalove between Bishop and Sam had me rolling my eyes at them for sure. Thanks for reading! :D
