Description: In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die… or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.

My Review:

To be completely honest, my tolerance for the vampire genre is waning. But vampires plus dystopia? Now that sounds like a fun time. Vampires plus dystopia plus zombie creatures?!
Needless to say, I've been pretty excited about this one. I was lucky enough to get an ARC from NetGallery and started reading it immidiately. Well my friends, I'm happy to tell you that The Immortal Rules lived up to my expectations and more.

While I wasn't the biggest fan of the Iron Fey series, I can't deny that they were written beautifully. Kagawa uses her mad skills in The Immortal Rules as well, transporting you into the vivid dystopian world. But in Kagawa's Iron Fey series, I didn't much care for the main character, Meghan. She was whiny, worthless, and overemotional. Kagawa has learned her lesson. Meet the main character of The Immortal Rules, Allie.
Okay, so Allie did wear more clothing. And she was a vampire. But other than that, it's pretty accurate. Especially the whole thing with her standing on a huge mound of dead zombie things she just slaughtered.
Badass main characters = My favorite kind of main characters. Here's a few of my favorite Allie quotes.

"I didn't want to die. Even if it meant becoming something I loathed, my nature was, first and always, to survive."

"I was afraid I wouldn't be able to control myself, and I would end up killing someone. And, deep down, a part of me didn't care. That was the scariest thing of all."

Allie was definitely awesome, but the story itself was just as great. So remember how I mentioned that this book has vampires, dystopia, and zombies all mixed together like a smoothie of the gods? Well, not only that, but the story is action packed and unpredictable. If The Immortal Rules was a roller coaster, this would be it.
Now here is me on that roller coaster.
If it wasn't for that bothersome thing called school, I would've had this baby read in under a day. Everything about The Immortal Rules was awesome. Lora on GoodReads used this picture to describe it, and it really does it justice:
With non-stop action, a delicious vampires-dystopia-zombies smoothie, a believeable romance, and a badass heroine, The Immortal Rules had it all. If you haven't already read this one, put it on the top of your to-do list. Now I just have to wait for the second book..

Summed Up:

An amazing new start to the Blood of Eden series! It had the great writing we can expect from Kagawa, a badass main character, tons of action, great characters, a cute romance, and a wicked awesome storyline.

I was apprehensive to read this because I felt the same way about Meghan in Iron King as you did. I'm glad to hear this one was better. I didn't know there were zombies in this too! After reading your review I'm very excited! Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten Tuesday post today =) I'm going to follow you now too.

I'm glad to finally hear someone felt the same as me about Meghan! It seems like everyone loves her and I'm like, what? And yes the zombies really help bring the story to whole new level of awesome. Can't wait to hear what you think of this one when you get to read it! :D

No problem Melissa! It was a very nice post, so jealous of the book signing! And thank you so much for following, I really do appreciate it. :)
